My Hair extension story

My Primark clip in extensions

I always seemed to have had really fine hair, and over the last five years it seems to have become even worse due to my under active thyroid. So I have tried a number of different hairstyles trying to make my hair look thicker and like it has more volume.

While I was in Primark earlier in the year, I saw a set of hair extensions. With them being in Primark they were dirt cheap, so I decided to give them a go. My flatmate in my first year of uni wore hair extensions everyday, and I honestly always saw them as tacky and fake. When I got home I looked up some youtube videos and tried out my new hair extensions.

Being from Primark, they didn’t last very long and soon became really knotted and horrible within a few weeks. And I still hadn’t got the courage to actually wear them outside.

For my birthday this year, I decided to ask for a proper set of hair extensions as my present. I looked up a number of reviews to try and find the best set for me, I eventually decided that I would get them from HeadKandy.

My birthday present- Head Kandy extensions

They were great at helping me pick what colour would match my hair, and amazingly they match perfectly. When I went out a few weeks ago, to a more indie club I decided it was the perfect opportunity to wear them out for the first time.

With a little help from my boyfriend, I managed to get them into my hair without too many clips showing and surprisingly people didn’t think it was really obvious. even though my hair had grown loads.

Finally worked out how to make them look natural!

This post was not sponsored  by either Primark or Head Kandy. Everything written here was my true feelings.

It’s strange how my thoughts on extensions have changed but I think today they are moved to look much more realistic. What are your thought?

Nail Polish Tips

weheartit.com

I want to start off by saying I am sorry for my lack of proper blog posts over the last few days. I have tried to write a number of time but every time I sat down and started typing it just felt wrong! I also attempted to write a very personal piece to commemorate the World Mental Health day on the 10th October (Wednesday!) however again I just found this too hard. Today I am back to writing my own posts but I am starting easy.

What should you do if you have the house to yourself? Well there is one thing that I decided to do; try some new tips I read on how to make painting your nails more easy. I have some friends that seem to have the ability to paint their own nails like a pro. My best friends even does nail art, while I struggle to paint my right hand without painting the whole hand.

So while I was surfing pintrest the other day I found this top tip. If you cover the finger around the nail in vaseline then any nail varnish you get on your finger can easily be pulled off once the nail varnish has dried. I have to say this worked out really well. I used a Q-tip to apply the Vaseline around my nail, I then painted away (going everywhere as normal.) Once the varnish had dried I washed my hands and off came the excess.

The second tip was a god send. One of my favorite nail varnishes is a deep red Revlon polish in exotica. I have loved this colour for years, and I am not sure if they still sell it but more than anything I don’t want to pay for the same polish I already had. So when I read about this idea I was excited; If you add a few drops of nail polish remover to your old polish it will stop been as goopie and go back to a brand new perfectly usable polish.

I have to admit that I was slightly skeptical about this. I use the nail polish remover to remove the nail polish (hence the name!) so why would it make the polish better? Well the red had become so thick I decided that I couldn’t use it anymore anyway so it wouldn’t make it any worse. So I added my nail varnish remover, but the lid back on and got polishing. I loved it! The colour is back to being usable and looks amazing. Such a good way to save money.

Don’t you just love Pintrest!

Rory Gilmore: Fall style

As it gets colder I am finding to hard to know what to wear. I have a pretty classic style, so I decided to trawl the internet looking for inspiration. When I found this site it was everything I wanted ideas on outfits and The Gilmore Girls. I may have found a new fave blog! I thought I had to share with you. There is also one for Loralie. However this one is all Rory. Hope you enjoy!

Although it ended in 2007, Gilmore Girls was a TV favorite of daughters and moms alike for seven seasons. Set in a small Connecticut town, the hit CW series followed Lorelai and her daughter Rory through Rory’s time in high school and college. The dialogue was fast-paced and filled with pop-culture references, and the girls both had family, relationship and career highs and lows.

To this day, the comedy-drama is a must see show, and Rory’s looks are still perfect style inspiration for any college student. Below, we’ll show you three college style tips inspired by Rory Gilmore’s wardrobe.

Rory’s Style: The Basics

Through her awkward high school years, to her prep school uniforms, to her time at Yale, Rory’s style matured from t-shirts and jeans to cardigans and dresses. Her polished, sophisticated wardrobe choices perfectly reflected her dedication to succeeding in the world of journalism and achieving perfect grades.

With graduation season fast approaching, Rory’s chic, ladylike looks are the perfect inspiration for parties, interviews and end-of-the-year events. Read on to learn how to get them for yourself.

1. Try Ladylike Silhouettes

Whether you credit her high-society grandparents or her private school days, Rory’s wardrobe always revolved around classic, ladylike pieces. For family dinners, work events and days at the office, her go-tos included a-line skirts, collared blouses, cardigans and fitted (but conservative) dresses.

Rory’s ladylike aesthetic is perfect for college students who want to look a little more polished in their everyday lives. If a long skirt and cardigan are a little too matronly for your liking, choose one of the pieces (an a-line skirt, collared blouse, or cardigan) and mix it with a favorite top or pair of jeans. A basic string of pearls is also a great way to add a bit of classic femininity to any outfit.

2. Make Simple Dresses Your Closet Staples

One of the best college-girl closet staples is a comfortable, stylish dress. As we all know, a pretty cotton dress is easy to dress up or down for almost any occasion. And Rory definitely knew this – as she transitioned from high school to college, she branched out from jeans and polo shirts to modern and classic frocks.

So embrace the versatility of the classic dress: Pair a black cotton dress with a denim jacket and flats for a day of classes, then lose the jacket and add a great pair of heels for a night out. Channel Rory’s style by choosing simple dresses in neutral colors like navy blue and black – they’re both timeless and flattering.

3. Invest in Polished Basics, then Mix & Match!

While her style matured over the years, Rory was always a jeans-and-t-shirt girl at heart. However, jeans and a tee just don’t cut it when you want to look put-together and professional. So when Rory got to Yale, she depended on sweaters and blazers to add polish to her teenage wardrobe staples.

Hopefully, you already have a great mix of basic t-shirts, tanks and jeans in your wardrobe, but to really step up your style, don’t wear them on their own. The key is to pair these basics with something a little more grown-up, like a nice sweater or structured jacket.

As Rory proves, whether you rock a well-cut blazer with a t-shirt and converse, or a pretty tank with a chunky knit sweater, mixing and matching can have great results!

What do you think?

Over the seven seasons of Gilmore Girls, Rory’s style evolved as she did, transforming her from an awkward high school student to a self-assured, successful undergrad at Yale. Rory’s looks are ladylike and conservative while still being casual and accessible – the perfect combination for college girls wishing to step up their style.

self tanner: part one

All the tanners I will review.

When I come back from holiday I love that sexy brown glow you get from your relaxing holiday and days spent by the pool. I don’t think I will ever get over than post holiday feeling, its addictive.

If you feel amazing in your post holiday bronzed body then you may well want to start off your university career bronzed. I am not suggesting you all jump on a plane the week before freshers week and head off to hotter climate. However I am suggesting you get your fake tan out and turn your bathroom into a holiday resort.

If you are thinking about tanning for university then I have some reviews of a number of fake tanning products I own.

Garnier body Summer body.

Garnier summer body says it is a Moisturising lotion sun-kissed look. In one step, Summer body moisturising lotion moisturises your skin from morning until evening whist gradually building a natural looking tan in harmony with your skin.

I have a slight confession to put at the beginning of this review, when I was purchasing this product I had actually been looking at the Light Sun-kissed look. However when I walked to the cashier I managed to pick up the wrong bottle and got the Deep Sun-Kissed look. The Deep Sun-Kissed bottle is actually designed for people with a darker complexion. As I am very pale this is obviously not designed for me.

The bottle is 400ml and only costs £3.55. Which I think is a great price for what you get, I have defiantly got normal moisturizer for more.

When applying this it comes out as a white lotion that you would expect from a normal moisturizer. While I applied it I tried hard to make sure that I had an even layer of product all over my body because I didn’t want to have an uneven tan.

Once I had applied the lotion my skin felt very moustirsed but It still felt wet for a really long time which meant I didn’t want to put my clothes on. Lucky I did this in the afternoon before a night out so I could stay in my room and didn’t have to go out for anything. However I feel this would not feel great just before putting my clothes on for uni.

By the time it came time to put my dress on for the night out my tan had defiantly developed. However despite my work trying to keep the lotion even I still had very noticeable streaks. Luckily I was going to a nightclub, aka a very dark place so it wasn’t so noticeable. However if I use it again it will be very cautiously! So overall not a great review on that one.

Soap and Glory- Glow lotion

I have to say I am a little bit of a Soap and Glory addict. I love their products, I have never found a product I don’t like, and who doesn’t love their names! Which leads me on to one of the downfalls of this product; the name Glow lotion doesn’t have the normal imaginative name which I was disappointed about.

This product says it’s a drop dead gorgeous highlighting shimmer lotion for the body. I was given this as a birthday present on a gift box with some other bronze-tastic gifts, however this product is 150ml and costs £5.50.

Now I’m not sure how well this fits into a self-tanner blog review as it is technically not a self tanner but I kind of use it that way so hope you don’t mind.

The tanner or highlight itself is a pink-peach shade with sparkle in it. On very pale skin tones, aka me without sun, it can add a slight tan but it mainly adds a great shimmer. I love this on a night out as it does make your skin look healthy.

When you put it on, you can use the squirt pump to apply it with your hands or straight onto your skin and then rub it in.

Although this isn’t great as a self-tanner which it hasn’t actually claimed to be . However this is great to either put on over a fake tanner or alone on a extra special night.

More self tanners coming soon

My Emergency Bag!

My Handbag Emergency Bag!

Since I have my new handbag, which I wrote about in my last post, I have decided to become more organized. You will see a pattern in my blogs coming up!

So I have created a small Survival kit that I carry around in my handbag and I thought I would share it with you.

Impulse Temptation.

The first product I have in my kit is an Impulse spray in ‘Temptation’. This is a spray one of my friends brought for me a while back and I don’t normally see the point of a body spray. I use deodorant and perfume normally but I thought it would be a great if it’s a hot day or I have been rushing around and I need a quick refresh.

I also have Vaseline in Rosy Lips. I quiet often find I have dried lips so this just helps to keep them soft. Vaseline is also one of those useful things to have.

My Makeup Compact.

This is a great product for on the go makeup touch-up. It has a relatively large mirror, a cream to powder foundation and a small sponge for application. So, it’s basically it has everything you need, I often use it if my foundation is starting to fade.

Bach Recue Remedy.

I first discovered rescue remedy while I was on holiday in South Africa and I was amazed that this magical little product made me feel so much better when I was ill. So it is now a must have! You only need a few drops of the liquid either into water or directly down your throat. It really seems to work!

Sex In the City perfume. Perfect size.

This perfume was given to me in a box set ages ago. It’s not my favorite scent so at home it doesn’t get used but it is the perfect size for on the go! The more I use it the more I like it.

My tablets.

I have one strip of my tablets. This means that if I end up stopping over at someones house or forget to take  my tablets I have them in my bag.

Ibuprofen. take away any hangover!

Ibuprofen is my painkiller of choice to use and it always comes in useful.

So what would you carry in your emergency bag?

Review: The Sanctuary Salt Scrub

The packaging

So I decided that I would start of the health and beauty section of this blog by talking to you about a product that I have just used and to be honest loved.

I am by no means a regular salt scrub user, I have used shop brought products as well as made my own but I don’t do it every week. However after cleaning like  mad to move my boyfriend and I out of the halls we have been living in this year I felt like I deserved a little bit of a pamper so I hopped in the bath and grabbed The Sanctuary Salt Scrub.

The Sanctuary claims that the salt scrub is to relax and indulge in the bath. “Exfoliate your skin with Dead Sea Salts, whilst moisturising with sweet almond and evening primrose oil.”

As you can see from the picture above the packaging is a really simple sachet that you just tear at the top. The product itself is, as you would expect the product  looks like chunks of sea salt however as soon as you touch the product you can feel the oil that is also in the product. I feel like I should mention this isn’t a horrible slimy oil feeling, more an intensely moisturizing feel.

The leftover Salt

The packet suggests getting into the bath and massage the scrub into your body in circular motions. Then you should lay back and allow the bath water to wash off the scrub. The one problem I found with this was that you do have to stand up in the bath to get all the areas I wanted to,  i.e. top of your leg. However feeling it wash away and the oil in the bath was very luxurious. The smell is also amazing, it has an aromatherapy quality to it I think which is obviously relaxing in the bath.

Packaging when I had used it

I was a little skeptical about the idea that this would actually moisturize my skin. It pretty much washes right off when I was in the bath so how can that actually moisturize? If I did that with regular moisturiser it wouldn’t be any use but this really does feel amazing once I got out of the bath I really felt like I had just bathed in moisturizer.

When I’m at University I obviously can’t have a bath, you can barely sit down in my bathroom so since I have been back I think I have been making up for them. So bathe while you can!
